Walls, beams and layout
Almost every kitchen complaint is a layout complaint wearing a finish complaint as a disguise. This is the part that cannot be changed later, so it is drawn, measured and structurally checked before a single cabinet is ordered.

Cabinetry
The largest object in the room and most of its budget. Ordered to a drawing that accounts for the appliances, the trim, the filler and the out-of-square corner, then set level and scribed to the walls that are actually there.

Countertops and stone
Templated after the cabinets are set, never before, because a top cut to a drawing fits a drawing. We walk the slab layout, place the seams where you will not run a cloth over them twice a day, and set the overhang the way you will use it.

Islands, peninsulas and seating
An island is decided by clearance before it is decided by size. If two people cannot pass behind a pulled-out stool, the island is too big for the room no matter how good it looks in the drawing.

Backsplash, tile and floors
Tile is what people run a hand along, and it shows every shortcut. The layout is drawn before the first cut so the courses land whole where they are seen, and the floor is flattened before anything is set on it.

Appliances and venting
Appliances decide cabinet widths, clearances, gas lines and circuits, so the specification sheets are read before the cabinets are ordered. Gas and electrical connections are made by the licensed contractors working to our schedule.

Sinks, faucets and plumbing
Where the water is decides where everything else can go. Plumbing is carried out by a licensed plumbing contractor working to our schedule, so the trades follow each other instead of waiting on each other.

Lighting and power
The part that decides whether good cabinetry looks good. Light on the work surface rather than on the back of your head, and enough circuits for a kitchen that now runs six appliances. Electrical work is carried out by a licensed electrical contractor on our schedule.

Storage and pantries
Storage is not more cabinets, it is the right cabinet in the right place. Most kitchens have the volume already and lose it to deep corner shelves nobody can reach and doors where drawers belong.

Small kitchens and kitchenettes
A galley, a condo kitchen or a basement kitchenette rewards careful decisions more than a large room does, because every choice is visible and nothing can be absorbed elsewhere.

Finishing, repairs and refreshes

Who we work for
Homeowners
A full gut, or new doors and a new top on cabinet boxes that are still sound. Small jobs are welcome, and every estimate is free and written down before anything starts.
Condo owners and boards
Board approval, certificates of insurance, elevator windows, quiet hours and the unit below the one you are working in. We assemble the package the board actually asks for.
Landlords and two-flats
Two or three kitchens on one permit, specified for turnover rather than for a magazine, and staged so an occupied unit is not left without a sink for the length of the whole project.
Designers and architects
We build to your drawings, read the appliance cut sheets before the cabinet order, and tell you what the wall, the floor and the joists behind the detail will actually take.
