What decides it
Fillers must be wide enough for doors and drawers to clear adjacent walls, not merely wide enough to close a gap. Scribe pieces then absorb the remaining irregularity without a heavy bead of caulk.
Why this is worth doing properly
Cabinetry occupies more of the room than anything else, so the order must account for appliances, trim, fillers and corners that are not square. We set the boxes level, fasten them to framing and scribe the finish to the walls that actually exist.
