A slab or full-height backsplash carries countertop material up the wall with fewer joints and a pattern planned to continue from the top.
What decides it
Outlet cutouts, cabinet clearances and the order of installation must be settled before the wall piece is fabricated. There is little room to adjust a full slab once it reaches the kitchen.
Why this is worth doing properly
Tile exposes rushed preparation. We set out backsplash courses around the range, hood and outlets before cutting, and flatten and stiffen the floor before installing material that cannot hide movement underneath it.
